blog:T-shirt designers launch their own firm
Kovet Kouture, a new clothing line, has been launched by two young t-shirt designers in the US.
Katie Kelly and Kris Ewton set up the line, which according to the Boston Globe is becoming a “fashion sensation”.
The girls said they had had enough of paying high prices for designer and vintage t-shirts and decided to design their own.
“We were all sick of paying $80 for designer tees,” Ms Ewton, 25, told the newspaper.
“In Manhattan, particularly, thrift shops were asking $25 for a used t-shirts.”
The pair claim their t-shirts are aimed at promoting self reflection and some carry messages such as ‘Judge Yourself’ and ‘It’s Who I Am’.
They are printed on plain t-shirts made of soft fabric and some are emblazoned with the company’s own custom-designed logo.
Ms Kelly is in her third year at the New England School of Law, while Ms Ewton works for diamond brand Hearts On Fire.
Meanwhile, another t-shirt designer is testing her work, as Rebecca Mueller, a nurse from Bettendorf, Iowa has won a competition to have her tees sold for charity.
According to the Des Moines Register, Ms Mueller won a competition and will see her design sold in support of the Compassion Fund – to help poor and homeless women.
